UK 1976: Ford Escort claims pole position, Mini stays on podium
Eight years after the launch of the nameplate, the Ford Escort claims the title of Britain’s best selling car for the first time in 1976. It manages to pass the Ford Cortina, down to #2, just for that year. The Mini stays stable in 3rd position, as for the Morris Marina (#4) and Austin Allegro (#5).
The new Vauxhall Chevette lands directly in 6th place, above the Ford Capri, back in the top 10 at #7 after one year of absence. The Austin Maxi is also back here after missing out in 1975.
