Australia 1988-1995: Commodore and Falcon’s closest fight

1988 Holden Commodore VN

With the arrival of the VN Series of the Commodore in 1988, both Falcon and Commodore now compete in the same segment, and the next 8 years will be the theatre of their most intense fight in the country. Sales figures information is sparse for this period, but I found out a couple of things: the Commodore stops the Falcon reign in 1988 and the Falcon is #1 in 1993 and 1995.

In between, it’s anyone’s guess (unless you have this info – in this case please get in touch!), but I will venture an estimation based on production figures: Commodore # 1 in 1989, 1990 and 1994 and Falcon #1 in 1991 and 1992. More pictures and figures: click on ‘Read more’ below.

1992 Ford Falcon EB

215,180 VN Commodores were produced between August 1988 and October 1991, whereas 223,612 BA Falcons were produced during the same period.

An estimated 90,000 units of the Ford Falcon were sold in Australia in 1993, putting the model in the top spot.

72,571 units of the ED Falcon were produced between August 1993 and August 1994,
