Australia 1996-2001: Commodore’s uninterrupted reign

2000 Holden Commodore

I don’t have access to full sales rankings for the years 1996 to 2001, just figures for the Holden Commodore, the best selling car in Australia during all those years, roughly corresponding to the lifetime of the VT-VX generations of the model which are the nameplate’s most popular to date.

Starting at  83,001 in 1996 and finishing at 85,422 in 2001, Commodore sales peaked at 94,642 in 1998, its highest volume ever. During the whole period, the Ford Falcon was #2, as can be seen in the Top 10 ranking for the fist 8 months 1999. The Toyota Camry and Hyundai Excel followed, the latter even managing to grab the #1 spot in June 1998.
