China 2004: VW Jetta and Santana on top, Hyundai Elantra arrives

VW Jetta

2004 is a year of growth consolidation for Chinese car sales, above 2 million yearly units for the second time only at 2,247,800 and up 8%. The Top 2 models grow at exactly the same rate as the market: the VW Jetta, restyled this year, is the best selling car in the country again at 153,916 sales and the 19-year-old VW Santana is #2 at 132,714 sales.

Honda Accord

The Tianjin Xiali is up one spot at #3 and 115,162 sales (+20%) and the Honda Accord is up 3 spots at #4 with 105,393 sales (+31%). However the best performance of the year is undoubtedly delivered by the Hyundai Elantra, launched in December 2003 and already #1 in June! It finishes the year in 5th place with 102,743 sales.

Other great performers this year include the Buick Excelle in 6th place (+156%) and the Honda Fit at #8 (+412%).
