Europe 2004: VW Golf, Peugeot 206 and 307 on podium

As predicted, the arrival of the 5th generation enables the VW Golf to take back the European best selling car title from the Peugeot 206 in 2004. Golf sales are up 11% at 552,707 units, whereas 206 sales are down 8% at 503,888. Peugeot manages to place 2 models on the podium with the 307 up two spots to #3 with 450,819 sales!

The Renault Megane’s controversial new looks are a big success: the model is up 6 spots and 24% in 4th position with 404,745 sales, ahead of the Ford Focus at 398,124 units (-13%) and the Renault Clio at 378,033 (-18%). The Opel Astra, helped by the 3rd generation launched this year, starts to climb back the ranking at #7 (+9%).
