France 2006: Clio III #1, 207 gearing up

In a market down 3% at 2,000,553 registrations, the Renault Clio III takes the lead at over 134,000 sales and 6.4% of the French market.  The Peugeot 307 is 2nd at 4.9%, followed by the Renault Scenic at 4.8%, both slowing down faster than the market.

2006 was the year of the changeover for Peugeot, with the 207 replacing the 206. Launched in April (#9 at 2.5% that month), the 207 established itself within the podium in June (3rd at 5.4%) and reached the first place in November (6.7%), its 8th month of sale. It is 4th overall in 2006 but will fight the Clio for the first place in 2007.

Notice also the 3rd place of the Citroen C3 in August, its best position ever. The C3 is 5th over the whole year at 3.5%. As far as foreign models are concerned, the VW Golf finished 1st at #11, and the VW Touran reached a best ever 11th place in October at 1.7%.
