Poland 2009: Skoda Octavia new leader

Poland has managed to go through the GFC unscathed, with stable car sales in 2009 at 320,123 units. Big change at the top: the Skoda Octavia passes its little sister Fabia to become Poland’s best selling car with 18.918 sales and 5.9% of the market, up a massive 32% over 2008 thanks partly to the new generation that went on sale at the start of the year.

The Fabia is down 5% at 13,980 sales and 4.4% and the Fiat Punto climbs onto the podium with sales up 25% at 10,560 units and 3.3%. The VW Golf fares even better: it is up 42% and 8 spots in 4th with 9,880 sales (3.1%). Other strong performances include the Hyundai i30 at #9 (+59%), the Toyota Avensis at #10 (+51%) and the Renault Megane at #12 (+71%).
