-7% for the French car market in September 2010, which given the phasing out of the scrappage incentive scheme is actually not too bad. The year-to-date numbers are still up by 3%.

The Renault Clio is #1 this month for the 3rd time this year after January and April with a solid 6% market share ahead of the 5.8% of the Peugeot 207. In the Year-to-date ranking though the Peugeot 207 stays ahead with 5.7%.

The 3rd position of the Renault Twingo is a bit of a surprise: it hasn’t ranked that high since February when the scrappage incentive was still in place. Its 4.1% market share is very strong, its highest since March.

Two more Renaults follow: The Scenic climbs back to 4th after a dismal 9th position in August, and the Megane drops to 5th after 3 months spent in 3rd place. In spite of this the Megane climbs to 4th overall in 2010 at 3.5%, passing the Dacia Sandero which suffered from the closure of its Romanian factory in August (only 18th this month).

The Peugeot 206+ climbs back into the Top10 at 8th (+6 over August), ahead of the Peugeot 3008, still very strong in 9th at 2.2%, and still ahead of the Citroen C4 Picasso (11th at 2.1%).

After 4 months of foreign models leadership (we can consider the Sandero French as Dacia is owned by Renault), the VW Polo drops back to 4th behind the VW Golf (10th), the Ford Fiesta (12th) and the Opel Corsa (13th).

Excellent performance for the Citroen DS3 which reaches its best ranking to date at 15th with 1.7% of the market and 2,881 units sold. The DS3 has gone way beyond Citroen’s expectations and is definitely one the of this year’s success stories. Let’s hope for Citroen that the DS4 will perform as well.

5th foreign model and 19th overall at 1.4%, the Nissan Qashqai confirms its extraordinary success and is still the best selling Japanese model, way ahead of the Toyota Yaris.

The sensational progression of the Dacia Duster (16th in August at 1.6%) is stopped by Dacia’s factory problems: only 29th this month at 0.9%, but October should see its sales go back up.
