Greece March 2011: Corsa in the lead, new Micra in Top 10

Car sales in Greece are not looking any brighter: still down 55% in March at 8,258 registrations and 43% year-to-date at 25,256.

The Opel Corsa is #1 for the second time this year with 398 sales and 4.7%, followed by the Ford Fiesta at 374 sales (4.4%) and the Ford Focus boosted by the new generation, up 10 spots over February in 3rd at 362 units (4.2%). The Toyota Yaris, still #1 year-to-date, is 4th this month.

There are a few great performances this month: the new Nissan Micra breaks into the Top 10 at #10 with 184 sales and 2.2%, the Audi A1 climbs to #17 with 128 sales and 1.5% and the Nissan Juke is 24th at 107 sales, for the first time above its big brother Qashqai at 98 units.

Greece February 2011: Yaris #1 at 8.6%, ASX passes Qashqai

Greek car sales are down 48% in February at 6,988 units. The Toyota Yaris, best seller in 2010, climbs back onto the top spot with 604 sales and a massive 8.6% market share, ahead of the VW Polo at 5% and the Opel Corsa at 4.3%.

The Toyota Auris leads the compact segment in 4th with 256 sales and 3.7%. All Top 4 models deliver much higher shares than in 2010. Fiat has a good month with the Panda at #5 and the 500 at #10, and the Mitsubishi ASX passes the Nissan Qashqai for the first time with 78 sales (#26) vs. 71 (#29).

Greece January 2011: Corsa #1, C3, Scirocco and Juke up

The Greek car market is still in recession, down 63% this month at 9,740 registrations. Recently refreshed, the Opel Corsa takes the lead with a very strong 6.6% market share and 647 sales, followed by the Toyota Yaris (6.3%) and VW Polo (5.2%), also very solid. Opel leads the compact category as well with the Astra in 4th at 357 sales (3.7%) ahead of the Toyota Auris (3.5%).

Good performances of the Citroen C3 up to #8, the VW Scirocco, 3rd best selling VW behind the Polo and Golf at #24, and the Nissan Juke up to #25 with 120 sales and 1.2% share.

Greece Full Year 2010: Yaris, Fiesta and Corsa on the podium

The Greek car market was hit by the economic crisis this year, down 36% at 141,404 registrations, with December down 62%.

#6 in 2009, the Toyota Yaris is the best selling car in Greece this year with 5,776 sales and 4.1%, just ahead of the Ford Fiesta, 2009’s best seller, at 5,685 sales (4%) and the Opel Corsa with 5,405 sales (3.8%).

Thanks to their new generations, the VW Polo (from #26 to #4) and Opel Astra (#9 to #5) climb up the ranking. The Fiat Panda (+21%), Hyundai i10 (+15%) and i20 (+12%) and Toyota Aygo (+38%) are some of the cheaper options Greek consumers preferred in this difficult environment.

Greece November 2010: Corsa #1

The Greek car market is falling further into recession, down 63% year-on-year in November. The Year-to-date figure is down 35%.

Traditionally very volatile, the Greek models ranking is led this month by the Opel Corsa at a very impressive 7.4% market share, followed by the Ford Fiesta (5.2%) and the Opel Astra (4.8%).

Year-to-date, the Toyota Yaris is still ahead at 4.1% but is threatened by the Ford Fiesta (also 4.1%), with the Corsa coming in 3rd (3.8%).

Other strong performers this month include the Smart Fortwo (#10), Alfa Romeo Giulietta (#16), Ford Ka (#17) and BMW 1 Series (#19). For its 2nd month of sales, the Nissan Juke is already 28th (1.1%), just ahead of the Qashqai…

Greece October 2010: Polo on top, A1 in Top 30

The economic crisis hitting Greece impacted on car sales: at 7,803 in October they drop 36% over 2009, which was already -41% over 2008. The year-to-date figures are at -32%.

Traditionally dominated by compact cars (Golf, Astra, Auris), this year the Greek market is led by minis: with 5.2% market share, the VW Polo is #1 in October whereas the Toyota Yaris is #1 in the year-to-date ranking with 4.2%. In fact, the Top 5 year-to-date is 100% minis with the Ford Fiesta #2, the Opel Corsa #3, the Polo #4 and the Fiat Panda #5.

The Audi A1 is by far the best-selling Audi model and breaks into the Top 30 already in 29th (1%). Other strong performers this month are the Toyota Aygo (#8), Skoda Yeti (#22), Alfa Romeo Giulietta (#25), Peugeot 3008 (#27) and Dacia Duster (#46).

Greece 2009: Ford Fiesta and Nissan Qashqai new best sellers

In a market down 17% at 220,412 registrations, the two best selling models were not even in the Top 10 last year! Another complete reshuffle of the models ranking sees the new generation Ford Fiesta grab the pole position at 7,534 sales (+82%) and 3.4% share. It was #15 in 2008.

The Nissan Qashqai, #22 in 2008, is now the second best selling car in Greece with 6,761 sales (+83%) and 3.1%. The VW Golf gains 2 spots and ranks 3rd at 3% of the market, followed by the Opel Corsa (2.8%) and the Toyota Auris & Yaris (both at 2.7%).  The all-new Opel Insignia lands directly in 7th position with over 5,000 sales and 2.3% share, and the Kia Cee’d breaks into the Top 10 with 3,723 sales (1.7%).
