The Portuguese market is the best performing large market this year in Europe at +39% and 223,464 registrations. For the second consecutive year the Renault Megane holds the pole position, this time with 14,434 sales and an improved 6.5% share, the Sport Tourer (Station Wagon) version being the most popular.
The Seat Ibiza at 8,898 sales (4%) gains two spots in 2nd place, boosted by 1,491 ST-Station Wagons. The Ford Fiesta is stable at #3, just ahead of the VW Golf, Renault Clio and Opel Corsa, all at 3.8%. Other good performances include the VW Polo at #8 (+7), the Citroen C3 at #11 (+11) and the Mercedes E Class at #17 (+10). The best new entrants in the Top 50 are the Fiat Punto Evo at #18 and the Chevrolet Spark at #33.

The Portuguese car market drops by 25% in 2009 and sees its model ranking completely shaken. The Renault Megane takes the lead at 5.9%, well ahead of the VW Golf, Ford Fiesta and Seat Ibiza. The Renault Clio, #1 in 2008, loses 38% and drops to 5th. Newcomers into the Top 10 in 2009 are the Fiat Grande Punto, 7th (+4) and the Nissan Qashqai in 9th (+6 spots).

Great performance for Renault this year in Portugal: it holds the first 2 spots with the Renault Clio in #1 at 10,124 sales and and the Renault Megane in #2 at 9,151. The arrival of the Station Wagon version of the Clio may have helped the model reach that position. The Opel Corsa stays #3 at 3.9% just ahead of the Seat Ibiza in very strong progression. 2008 Top 40 below.
In 2007 the Renault Megane is the best selling car in Portugal with 5.3% of the market and 10,709 sales, just ahead of the Opel Astra at 10,368 sales and 5.1%. Station wagons are very popular in Portugal and account for a significant percentage of these two models’ sales. In 3rd place comes the Opel Corsa at 9,165 sales and 4.5%. 2007 Top 10 below.
No exact figures for the Portuguese car market in 2006, just the name of market leaders throughout the year. The Renault Clio tops the sales ranking from February to April, the Opel Astra is #1 in January and from May to August and the Renault Megane is leader in October. In all likeliness the Renault Clio should finish the year as the best-selling car in Portugal.
The models ranking change completely in 2005 in Portugal, and the Opel Astra takes the lead with 12,928 sales and 6.3% share, ahead of the Renault Megane at 9,323 sales and the Peugeot 307 at 8,211. The Opel Corsa is 4th with 8,010 registrations and the Peugeot 206 5th with 7,701. The new Renault Clio III sells 2,194 units in just 2 months at the end of the year! Very promising for 2006.
