Vietnam March 2011: Toyota Innova and Vios on top

New car sales in Vietnam are up 1% in March at 9,513 units, and up 30% year-to-date at 27,896. The Toyota Innova holds onto its throne with 590 sales and 6.2%, and is followed this month by the Toyota Vios, up 2 spots at 475 registrations and 5% share.

The Chevrolet Cruze jumps onto the podium in 3rd place at 460 sales and 4.8%, ahead of the Toyota Corolla and Fortuner, both at 4.6%. Notice the Mercedes E Class at #20.

Vietnamese car sales continue to impress, after +48% in January, they are up 56% in February at 7,889 registrations. The Toyota Innova builds itself a comfortable margin at 573 sales and 7.3%, with the Toyota Fortuner back to #2 at 443 sales (5.6%).

The Top 5 is identical to the 2010 ranking: the Toyota Corolla Altis and Vios follow only 2 and 4 units behind the Fortuner, and the Daewoo Lacetti is 5th at 4.7%. Notice the Nissan Grand Livina breaking into the Top 20 at 1% of the market.

Vietnam January 2011: Innova and Corolla on top, Kia Forte up

The Vietnamese car market starts the year with a bang: it is up 48% with 10,424 registrations. Four Toyotas still dominate, but this time the Innova (6.7%) and Corolla Altis (6.5%) are on top, followed by the Fortuner (5.9%) and Vios (5.8%).

The Daewoo Lacetti (5.7%), Kia Morning (5.5%) and Kia Forte (4.2%) are all in very strong progression, ahead of the Kia Carens also very solid at 3.6%. The Mitsubishi Zinger jumps into the Top 20 at #16 (1.3%).

Vietnam 2010: Toyota Innova and Fortuner fight it out

The Vietnamese car market is down 26% in December at 11,198 registrations, bringing the 2010 figure to 112,224, down 6%. The Toyota Innova keeps the title of best selling car in Vietnam in 2010 with 7,419 sales and 6.6%. The Toyota Fortuner, #2 at 6,551 sales and 5.8%, is getting closer every month: only 19 sales separated the two models in December.

Two more Toyotas follow: the Corolla at 5.4% (6.3% in December thanks to the restyled version) and the Vios at 5.2%. The Daewoo Lacetti (aka Chevrolet Cruze) reaches #5 in 2010 with 3.8% of the market, ahead of the Kia Morning (Picanto) at 2.9% and the Daewoo Matiz (aka Chevrolet Spark) at 2.6%. The new Kia Forte is also very successful in Vietnam: #14 in 2010, it is already #8 in December with a very solid 3.3% share.

Vietnam November 2010: Toyota Fortuner at 6.8%

At 11,198 registrations this month, the Vietnamese market is down 9% year-on-year and 4% year-to-date at 99,798 sales. The Toyota Innova regains its first spot with 811 sales (7.2%) followed by the Toyota Fortuner at an excellent 6.8% (732 sales).

#1 last month, the Kia K3000 delivers another strong month at #3 with 6.5% of the market and jumps to #3 YTD (5.3%). Solid performances also for the Toyota Corolla (#4 at 5.9%), Kia Morning (#5 at 5.1%), Daewoo Cruze (#7 at 3.2%) and Kia Forte (#12 at 2.1%).

Vietnam January-October 2010: Innova in the lead

The Vietnamese market is slightly below 2009 at -11% in October (10,421 sales) and -4% year-to-date (88,600 sales). Toyota is king with 4 cars in the Top 4!

The Toyota Innova is in the lead at 5,769 registrations and 6.5% market share year-to-date, ahead of the Fortuner (5.6%), Vios (5.4%) and Corolla (5.2%). Kia places the K3000 pick-up truck in 5th at 5.1% (it is even #1 in October at 6.9%). No other model is above 3% in the year-to-date ranking.

October highlights also include the Kia Morning (aka Picanto) in 6th at 3.6% and the Daewoo Cruze in 8th at 3.1%.

Vietnam 2009: Toyota Innova under threat from Corolla+Fortuner

Lightly facelifted this year, the Toyota Innova is the best selling car in Vietnam for the 4th year in a row, however with a much weaker share of 7.1% compared to 13.6% in 2008. It is now under threat from the Toyota Corolla Altis, up 5 spots and an astounding 171% at 6,468 sales and 5.4%. A third Toyota has climbed to the summit of the ranking: the all-new Toyota Fortuner lands directly in 3rd place with 5,878 sales and 4.9% share.

Lower in the ranking, the Toyota Vios gains one spot to #4 at 4.3%, the Chevrolet Spark is up 6 places 222% in 5th and the Kia Morning breaks into the Top 10 with sales up 159% at 2,689 units.
