Poland February 2011: Skoda Fabia in the lead

21,763 new cars were sold in Poland in February, up 1% year-on-year. For the first time since 2009, the Skoda Fabia is the best selling car in the country, ahead of its big sister the Skoda Octavia with 908 sales (4.2%) vs. 856 (3.9%). The Octavia is still #1 year-to-date at 6.1% share, with the Fabia #2 at 5%, both well above their 2010 levels.

In 3rd position, the Opel Astra gains one spot on January at 789 sales (3.6%) and is also #3 year-to-date at 3.8% share. It is followed by the Fiat Punto and Ford Focus. Notice the excellent performance of the Chevrolet Aveo, outside the Top 20 in 2010 but #8 in 2011 year-to-date.

Poland January 2011: Skoda Octavia at 6.8%, Kia Venga in Top 10

Kia Venga

Polish car sales are down 3% this month at 24,535 units. Skoda is in shape: the Octavia improves its share to a brilliant 6.8% at 1,661 sales and the Fabia climbs back to #2 at 1,162 sales and 4.7%. Both are way above their 2010 shares.

The Fiat Punto ranks 3rd at 3.4%, ahead of the Opel Astra (3.2%). The ranking takes a bit of shake up this month with no less than 9 new entries in the Top 20. Leading these, the Kia Venga breaks into the Top 10 for the first time in Poland as well as any country in the world (it is not sold in South Korea) at #8 with 522 sales and 2.1%.

The Tofas Sahin was among the best selling cars in Turkey in the 90’s.

Poland Full Year 2010: Octavia, Fabia and Astra on podium

The Polish car market is up 4% this year with 334,395 registrations. The Skoda Octavia (5.5% share) and Fabia (3.8%) keep their positions, whereas the Opel Astra climbs up to the 3rd place (+11 spots and 111%) at 11,635 sales and 3.5%. It is followed by the Ford Focus (+1 spot), VW Golf (-1) and Fiat Punto (-3).

Great performance of the Nissan Qashqai at #8 (+10 spots and 42%) and VW Polo at #11 (+5). In December, the Opel Insignia is up to 6th with 3% share. It finishes the year at #16 (+35%). Full December and 2010 Top 20 Ranking Table: click on ‘Read more’ below.

Poland November 2010: Kia Sportage #5, Citroen Berlingo #7

The recovery is here in Poland: car sales are up 25% in November at 33,911 units, bringing the 2010 total back into positive at 298,344 units, up 2%. The top of the ranking is unchanged, with the Skoda Octavia and Fabia still dominant.

This month’s surprises are just below: the Kia Sportage delivers an amazing 5th place (up 11 spots on October!) with 888 sales and 2.6%. Last month’s 8th place was not a fluke for the Citroen Berlingo, 7th in November at 844 sales and 2.5% and already 20th YTD (4,010 sales and +65%).

Poland October 2010: Golf #3, Sportage #16

The Polish market is up a healthy 20% in October at 30,380 registrations, bringing the 2010 YTD total to -1% at 264,470.

The Skoda Octavia (5.9%) and Fabia (3.8%) maintain their domination in Poland, ahead of the VW Golf which reaches a very satisfying third place. The Opel Astra and Fiat Punto are also doing well in 4th and 5th.

Freak month for the Citroen Berlingo at #8, whereas the Kia Sportage continues its impressive progression in 16th place with 1.7% of the Polish market.

Poland September 2010: Octavia #1

Poland is the biggest Eastern-European market after Russia and it grows by 12% in September with 27,906 registrations, but is -3% over 9 months 2010 at 234,046 sales.

1-2 for Skoda in Poland with the Octavia leader at 5.3% ahead of the the Fabia at 4.2%. Then 3 German compact cars follow: the Ford Focus, Opel Astra and VW Golf. The Astra is 3rd in the year-to-date rankings.

Strong performers this month are the Ford Mondeo (#7), Peugeot 207 (#15) and Kia Sportage which breaks into the Top 20 for the first time in Poland.

A flash-back to August shows the Dacia Duster and Mistubishi ASX entered the Top 20 in 19th and 20th.

Also to be noticed is the 20th position of the Kia Venga in the year-to-date rankings (pictured below), Poland being its best worldwide market.
