Proton Saga FL

Solid first month of the year in Malaysia at 53,114 registrations, and Proton is back in shape with the Saga (helped by the facelifted FL model) back in #2 7,128 sales and 13.4% share, only 48 units below the Perodua Myvi. The entire Top 9 is identical to the general 2010 ranking so no surprises there.

The new Proton Inspira (a rebadged Mitsubishi Lancer) breaks into the Top 10 at its 3rd month of sales with 1,370 units changing hands in January for a 2.6% market share (#10).

Also to be noticed is the 11th place of the Nissan Teana, by far its best score in Malaysia, and the arrival of the Peugeot 207 Sedan (in fact a 206+), “the first Peugeot for ASEAN”, in the Top 30 with 298 sales.

Malaysia 2006-2007: Perodua Myvi takes control of the market

Perodua Myvi

Launched in 2005 to immediate success, the Perodua Myvi takes the pole position in the Malaysian car sales ranking in 2006 and comfortably keeps its title in 2007, reaching market shares of above 17%…

Below, the ranking is pretty unstable: it sees the Perodua Kancil take the 2nd spot in May 2006 at 8.4% followed by the Proton Wira at 5.8% and the Proton Waja at 5%, whereas over the first 10 months of 2007 the Proton Iswara climbs back to #2 with 9% of the market, followed by the new Perodua Viva at 8.6% (but 13.3% in October!) and the Toyota Avanza at 5%.

Malaysia 2004-2005: Perodua Kancil takes the lead

January 28, 2006 Leave a comment

Perodua Kancil

After years of domination of the Proton Wira, the Perodua Kancil, a rebadged Daihatsu Mira, takes the lead of car sales in Malaysia in 2004 and 2005. It sells 30,454 units over the first 6 months of 2005 or 11.7% of the market, ahead of the Proton Iswara (7.1%), Wira (6.8%) and Waja (6.7%).

Notice the Proton Gen-2, launched in Q3 2004 to partly replace the best-selling Wira, coming in at #7 with 14,153 sales and 5.4%. On top of the Kancil, Perodua places two more models in the Top 8: the Kelisa at #5 and the Kenari at #8. The Perodua Myvi (a rebadged Daihatsu Sirion) launched in May 2005 and in all likeliness managed to take the lead of the Malaysian market sometime during the second half of 2005.
